Many dermatologists will prescribe
a topical cortisone (corticosteroid) cream for the control of skin conditions including Rosacea.
All
Cortisone creams have anti-inflammatory properties and are classified
according to their vosoconstriction properties. Vasoconstriction is the
narrowing of the blood vessels, resulting in less blood getting to the
surface, resulting in a paler skin.
Cortisone creams are very effective for inflammation and reducing the red face of Rosacea. Great, so what's the problem ....
The side effects are the problem -
- Thinning of the skin
- Steroid induced telengiectasia - red spider veins
- Steroid Induced Rosacea
- Rebound effect - withdrawal of the cream can lead to aggressive recurrence of Rosacea
- Addiction - your body produces it's own cortisone but stops production when using cortisone cream is used regularly
- Tolerance to the action of the drug with regular use
- A whole host of skin rreactions - dermatitis
Short term useIf
your face is very red and your papules very inflamed, you could ask
your dermatologist to prescribe a short-term course of cortisone cream
- just to get you symptoms under control. Then you can start a
long-term program to control your Rosacea.
Rosacea Relief Cream is an effective, natural alternative to cortisone creams.
