The causes of Rosacea - Rosacea is an embarrassing skin condition that affects an estimated 45 million people worldwide. This Rosacean community is prepared to spend millions of $$$ to find cures for their condition. I find it difficult therefore, to believe that no one even knows what causes Rosacea!
There are many theories: including overactive sebaceous glands and outside infectious agents.
I have read that some believe that demodex mites could be the cause of papules and pustules. The idea is that these microscopic creatures live inside the hair follicles on the face and cause irritation and inflammation. I once tried using topical Permethrin but it didn't help my Rosacea and one of the side effects was a reddening of the face - so I stopped that experiment.
Another theory is that there is a possible link between Rosacea and Helicobacter pylori, a bacterium that causes infection in the gastrointestinal system.
My personal theory is that Rosacea is your body's way of telling you that your auto-immune system cannot cope with all the junk that you have subjected it to over the years - more of this theory on the MY ROSACEA THEORY page - link not active yet.
Why we have Rosacea is unknown but the GOOD NEWS is that it can be controlled and you can live a normal life.
